The Daadras Foundation closed 2023 by hosting the Afghan Refugee Crisis in Pakistan Conference on December 26, an event that brought together speakers, partners, and participants to address one of the region's most pressing humanitarian challenges.

The conference came at a critical moment. Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghans for more than four decades, and their numbers grew further after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. In October 2023, the government announced that undocumented foreign nationals had to leave the country by November 1. By early December, more than 400,000 Afghans had returned to Afghanistan, including many who had lived in Pakistan for years or were born there.

Those who remain face compounding vulnerabilities, including poverty, uncertainty over their legal status, the risk of deportation, and limited access to healthcare and education. The conference provided a platform for discussion and collaborative problem-solving around these challenges.

Daadras has long held that human rights are central to its mission, and convening this conference extended that commitment beyond direct relief into advocacy and awareness.

The organisation thanked all partners, speakers, and participants who contributed to the event's success and expressed its commitment to continuing this dialogue into 2024 and beyond.
